Sunday Psalm #95

June 29, 2014
I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (A)
July 6, 2014
Our psalm setting in Filipino is by Dennis N. Marasigan and our two settings in English are by Tinnah M. dela Rosa and Kent Lardizabal.
In a sense, every time you sing a responsorial psalm your reveal some aspect of God and God's "gracious will" (gospel) to the assembly. How has this ministry led you to know God more deeply? How has it offered you "rest" (gospel)? (Cf. Living Liturgy 2011, p. 171)

Do we really have to know more about Jesus Christ?
We know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and our Savior. He was born human; he suffered, was nailed to the cross, and rose on the third day.
The Lenten and Easter Season may have ended, but does our relationship to Him have to?
Let us remember that He was not sent only to save us from sin, but also to bring us closer to the Father. It’s not enough that we know Christ by the many attributes given to Him. We should know His teachings and live His examples.
How do we do it? By reading and understanding the Word of God in the Holy Bible, and through teachings of the apostles, just like Peter and Paul.
In your next church visit, know Jesus more by listening to Him more. Sit for a few minutes and pray that God may grant you the spirit to appreciate Jesus’ earthly life better.
Knowing Jesus deeper lifts up our spirituality and strengthens our emotions. May your relationship with Jesus bless others as well.
Thanks to joelgals for the video and to Em Alcantara for the reflection!

Sunday Psalm #94
June 22, 2014
The angel of the Lord will rescue those who fear him
Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles
June 29, 2014
The psalm setting in English is by Tinnah M. dela Rosa and the one in Filipino is by Dennis N. Marasigan.
Peter and Paul were "rocks" of the early church. Neither double chains, nor a multitude of guards, nor secure locks, nor impending death, nor any "evil threat" could deter Peter and Paul from pursuing the mission given them by Christ. Today, we are the "rocks" commissioned by the same Christ - strengthened, protected, and helped just as dramatically as they. (Cf. Living Liturgy 2011, p. 167) As you prepare to sing this psalm, recall how the Lord has "rescued" you in your time of difficulty.

Thursday Music #94

Do you believe that you can have eternal life? How often do you receive Christ in the Eucharist and sincerely, proclaim, “Amen, I do believe that I am receiving the most Holy Body and Blood of Christ”?
The word, eucharist, means “thanksgiving”. However, are we really thankful when we are given this beautiful gift of God’s life and love in us when we celebrate the Holy Mass? This coming Sunday, we’ll celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ or the Feast of Corpus Christi. Jesus Himself taught us that He is the Living Bread and whoever eats His flesh and drinks His blood has eternal life. If we think about it, if we truly believe and become what we receive in the Eucharistic celebration, then, we will be able to live and love as Jesus did. Indeed, we have to become what we receive. If not, then we are no different from the hypocrites during Jesus’ time. We run the risk of being the modern Pharisees and Sadducees or worse, we might already be living as such without us realizing it.
As you pray and reflect with this beautiful song, “Do This in Memory” by Chris Muglia (please view starting at 3:41), ponder on Christ’s great sacrifice and gift to us with a humble yet grateful heart. Think of ways of being more Christ-like, becoming better or even the best version of ourselves everyday and especially when we receive Him in the Eucharist. In doing so our faith may be transformed into loving actions for God and others as it should really be.
May you have a transformative Thursday, as you become what you receive!
Thank you to rfeduccia for the video and to Delson Balance for the reflection!

Tuesday PraySing #93

June 17, 2014
Our Tuesday PraySing post is another 2-page responsorial psalm in Filipino for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) by Migs Miguel.
God fills you "with the best of wheat", the very person of Jesus. But God is also nourishing you to participate in the death and resurrection of Jesus (second reading). What does the gift of the Eucharist mean to you? How can you grow in your willingness to die with Jesus so that you can rise with him? (Cf. Living Liturgy 2011, p. 163)

Thursday Music #93

Have you ever made a leap of faith?
It takes a leap of faith for many people to comprehend or to experience the Holy Trinity. It is a leap to transcend beyond our limited capacity to reason. It is a leap to fully understand and embrace the fact that we are unconditionally loved by God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
When making the sign of the cross for Catholics and other Christian denominations, we recall and make present God’s love in the Trinity. At the end part of most prayers, we also praise the Father, Son and Holy Spirit with reverence.
To celebrate the Holy Trinity then is to celebrate and remember God’s unending love for all. Do we also realize this truth when we utter the simple prayers we say everyday? As you pray with the song, "Praise the Father Praise the Son" performed by Chris Tomlin, we also invite you to slowly and reverently speak to God who is Father, Son and Spirit. As you pray, thank God the Father, Son and Spirit for their unfailing love.
May you find consolation and certainty in the love given by the Holy Trinity. May God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be the center of our actions towards loving our neighbor.
Many thanks to WMPhotographyc Glyn Watson and to Friel Canto for the reflection!

Sunday Psalm #92

June 8, 2014
Glory and praise forever!
Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
June 15, 2014
We are so blessed this day because we have three psalm settings to share for Holy Trinity Sunday. The psalm setting in Filipino are by Dennis N. Marasigan (2 pages) and Marc Misael S. Gamil (3 pages) while the setting in English is by Tinnah M. dela Rosa.
An excellent preparation for leading this canticle would be to use part of it (e.g., "Blessed are you, God!" or "Glory and praise to you, God!") as a personal prayer every day this week. Sing it as you rise each morning, as you see new spring life pushing up from the ground, as you look upon the face of a loved one, as you share a meal. Sing it wherever you see pain eased, forgiveness given, hope rekindled. You will be celebrating the God in whom you believe, and the assembly will hear this in your singing on Sunday. (Cf. Living Liturgy 2011, p. 157)

Thursday Music #92

What fills your heart with joy?
There are many treasures that seem to fill our hearts with joy and our souls with satisfaction. Recall these treasures. Let your heart grow in gratitude for each of them. They are God's blessings.
All these treasures, however, are time-bound. Whether we admit it or not, they are fleeting gifts. What does last forever is God's love for it is boundless and abiding.
As you pray to the Lord, ask God to help you recognize the treasure of love that he gives without measure. Let your heart grow in gratitude for God's love in His Son Jesus and through His Spirit. You may sing with the "Spirit Song" performed by the Maranatha Singers to become even more aware of God's Spirit in our midst as you pray in thanksgiving to the Lord.
May this Thursday bring you to a wholeness and deep joy that only God's love brings.
Many thanks to Reggie Goo for the video!

Sunday Psalm #91

Lord send out your spirit
Solemnity of Pentecost
June 1, 2014
We are so blessed this day because we have three psalm settings to share for Pentecost Sunday. The 2-page psalm setting in Filipino is by Dennis N. Marasigan, and the two settings in English are by Tinnah M. dela Rosa and Joey Delos Santos.
The gospel for Pentecost this year indicates that the primary power Jesus gives the disciples through the Spirit is the power to forgive sins. How does forgiveness bring about renewal? How have you yourself experienced the renewing power of forgiveness? Where in your life right now do you need to ask the Spirit for this power? (Cf. Living Liturgy 2011, p. 151)
